Our client needed to remove a 40,000L underground JetA1 tank which was no longer required and could cause future problems if left in the ground.

Location provided the first challenge for our team to overcome. With the tank located in a parking lot close to a busy roadway, we needed to close a lane to traffic and complete the work during the night. Conditions were further complicated due to the presence of underground services in the area, including power and fibre-optic cabling. Weather conditions were also a major consideration at the time.

To ensure the removal would go smoothly, preparation was imperative. We liaised with the Regional Council and held a detailed pre-meeting with the client and our contractors.

Safety is always paramount and well planned out at Petrotec. Given that the work was taking place overnight, we ensured that the team was well prepared physically and had rested beforehand, with allowance for breaks and the ability to rehydrate and eat.

We are pleased to have received high commendation from our client regarding the attitude of our team and our civil contractors. The HSE component of the project was described as exemplary.
